Huawei upgrades enterprise telepresencing to 2.0

Communication vendor releases three new Telepresence 2.0 models for the Australian market

The enterprise arm of Chinese communications vendor, Huawei Australia, used Gartner Symposium/ITxpo 2011 as the springboard to launch its new Telepresence 2.0 systems.

Three Telepresence 2.0 models were launched: the TP3106 model aimed for three to six users, and two room-immersive TP3118S and TP3118 offerings both aimed at facilitating six to 14 users.

The defining characteristic of the newly introduced system is 30 per cent lower bandwidth consumption compared to the industry average for full high-definition 1080p video and surround sound.

For Huawei Australia enterprise managing director, Gavin Milton-White, the launch is important because it represents the company’s next generation of telepresence solutions.

“Huawei has been in the conferencing business for 15 years, and we have an established base of customers with telepresence and video conferencing, and this now is an extension of our capabilities and technology to version 2.0 of the product,” he said.

With affordability, connectivity, and interoperability as obstacles in the way of telepresence, Milton-White hopes that the company’s 2.0 solution will go some way to overcoming those three barriers to bolster telepresence adoption in Australia.

“What’s important with Telepresence 2.0 is that is allows us to continue to focus on our three main differentiators on the marketplace, which are affordability of the product, the low cost of ownership connected to lower bandwidth use, and our interoperability with competitor’s products, to help drive adoption of the solution by enterprises,” he said.

To demonstrate the interoperability between Huawei Telepresence and competitor equipment in Australia, Huawei recently showed how it could connect to AARNet (Australia’s Academic and Research Network) sites in Sydney, Melbourne, and Canberra, becoming the first company to successfully do so in the process.

Huawei recently rolled out its Huawei Enterprise Advantage Partner (HEAP) program with authorised distributor, Simms International, in Australia.
