APP OF THE DAY: Wikitude World Browser

Usefulness and accuracy of information is largely dependant on user contributions

Wikitude World Browser
Cost: Free | Developer: Wikitude GmbH | Platform: BlackBerry | Version: 6.0.11 | 2747 MB |

If you are tired of looking at your surroundings, you could try to get a whole new outlook with Wikitude World Browser.

The app uses the BlackBerry’s camera for an augmented reality (AR) experience that allows the users to see places and points of interests through the viewfinder.

In addition to finding ATMs and restaurants, users can have a more engaging and immersive experience with their surroundings thanks to user reviews, Wikipedia articles and tweets that are connected to locations.

The search function is also quite useful, where the user can just type in a search term into Wikitude’s search box, hold up the phone and the relevant venue in your vicinity will be highlighted.

If the existing content doesn’t satisfy your needs, users are also able to create their own AR locations by going to www.wikitude.me and drop markers on a map to highlight your favourite restaurant, bar or venue.

Pros: A fun and useful way to interact with your surroundings.

Cons: Usefulness and accuracy of information is largely dependant on user contributions.

Verdict: Get yourself digitally connected to your surroundings with Wikitude World Browser.
