New WatchGuard iOS mobile support for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch data and Akamai advances technology offerings for businesses adopting the cloud

WatchGuard protects Apple users

Business security solutions provider, WatchGuard Technologies, will soon be releasing its new WatchGuard iOS mobile support, which has security capabilities to protect Apple iOS-enabled devices – including the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch data.

It provides seamless and secure data encryption tunnelling for the Apple devices to WatchGuard next-generation firewalls.

Through the solution, the company aims to provide mobile users with unparalleled protection for their mobile devices, while giving network administrators an avenue to manage, monitor and secure mobile devices, information and applications.

According to WatchGuard Technologies Asia-Pacific vice-president for channels and alliances, Scott Robertson, managing and securing consumer technologies is a challenge for businesses as more employees are bringing personal devices into their corporate IT ecosystem.

“By offering a way to securely connect iOS devices with WatchGuard security appliances, administrators can say ‘yes’ to their employees, while knowing their corporate networks, applications and data are safe and secure,” he said.

It enables users to create a mobile virtual private network (VPN) connection via IPSEC with their iOS devices, for fast and easy VPN connections from anywhere to their WatchGuard XTM firewall appliance.

It also consolidates security functions from WatchGuard’s line of extensible threat management (XTM) security solutions – such as stateful packet firewall, VPN, anti-spam, anti-spyware, anti-virus, content filtering and intrusion prevention.

The new WatchGuard iOS mobile support will be available for free to WatchGuard customers with current LiveSecurity subscriptions. It will be available worldwide Q4, 2011.

Akamai advances technology offerings to support business migration to Cloud

Content delivery network vendor, Akamai Technologies, recently unveiled technology advancements to its Akamai Intelligent Platform.

It introduced new solutions for application acceleration from the enterprise to the Cloud, mobile site acceleration and adaptation, security and the monetisation and distribution of rich media – designed to meet the requirements of doing business in a hyperconnected world.

A suite of mobile site solutions, expected to be available in the first half of 2012, was designed to combine Internet network and protocol optimisation with front end optimisation (FEO) to provide a solution for any business with a mobile site. In addition, Akamai is working to extend its platform into mobile networks.

The Akamai Intelligent Platform aims to mitigate the challenges of operating in a hyperconnected world by providing a single platform over which businesses can engage users across the Web, mobile, Cloud, or a mix of public and private network environments.

According to the company, current estimates identify more than 35 billion connected devices around the world, with projections forecasting there to be 1 trillion connected devices in the next two years.

The Akamai Intelligent Platform addresses customer needs that include: - Optimising application delivery from the enterprise to the Cloud - Enabling mobile site optimisation, adaptation and performance - Supporting the demand for multi-device consumption

Akamai is also announcing the general availability of its integrated Media Analytics product suite, allowing content providers to synchronise viewers’ experience with audience engagement statistics. It extends their visibility into how content, quality and packaging decisions impact their audience and delivers insights for the best ways to create and deliver “sticky” content.
