In what the vendor describes as a world first, Fuji Xerox Phaser Printing has announced a single-pass colour laser printer, which it believes will redefine the printing market in Australia.
The Phaser 7700 can print all four colours in a single pass, rather than the four passes normally required with laser technology. This allows black-and-white and colour print speeds of 22 pages per minute, according to Fuji Xerox Phaser Printing (FXPP).
"Single pass is the future of printing," said Ben Gardem, Fuji Xerox Phaser Printing channel marketing manager for Australia and New Zealand. "It will differentiate the offerings in the market and will speed up the redundancy of monochrome printers, with faster print speeds in both colour and mono from one device."
Earlier this year, FXPP launched two high-speed light emitting diode (LED) single-pass laser printers, but the Phaser 7700 will offer resellers a real point of differentiation in the competitive printing market, according to Gardem.
"This is a significant step forward in the whole category, with real professional quality at super speeds. I think you will find all the vendors in a race to launch this type of technology from now on. This is where the future is. With colour becoming faster, particularly in network laser printers, it will bring people into the category who would previously have chosen an alternative technology or outsourced the job."
The new printer is aimed at the high end of the market, for companies needing professional quality or specialist graphics at maximum speed. Capable of printing tabloid-size pages, the Phaser 7700 also comes with finishing options such as stackers and high-speed feed trays, accessories not typically associated with FXPP's previous printer offerings.
"We haven't traditionally offered these sorts of options," Gardem said. "But there is an increased need because with more documents being stored in electronic format, there is an increased need for printing over copying."
The Phaser 7700 qualifies for FXPP's reseller rebate program, designed to entice the channel to regard printing solutions as more than just accompaniments to their business.
"Our products don't fit into the low-margin category," Gardem said. "All resellers should consider printing as a core part of their business rather than just an add-on if they are looking for ways to improve profits."
Total cost of ownership and productivity will increasingly influence sales, he said.
"The running costs, not just capital costs, associated with a printer, are becoming increasingly important for the customer. Further, if resellers are interested in winning a new customer or keeping an existing one, and they are only offering four-pass lasers, they are potentially putting their relationship with their customer at risk. We now have four machines in our range that print at double-digit speeds in colour at full resolution."
