Local online retailer launches new service to fend off 'cheap and nasty' imports

Laptop Plus is offering computer stores access to trade prices for laptop batteries and AC adaptors attached with local warranties

Online accessories retailer Laptop Plus, has launched a new service offering computer stores access to ‘trade prices’ for laptop batteries and AC adaptors.

Laptop Plus is an online extension to Adelaide Computer Superstore.

Founder, Massoud Esmaili, said the service aims to help computer stores compete against the flood of low-quality product imports. As part of the service, Laptop Plus will offer an overnight delivery to any Australian location for as little as $9.

Discounts of up to 20 per cent on regular retail prices are also up for grabs.

“Brick-and-mortar stores are losing customers to unscrupulous online stores. Although many advertise as Australian companies, they are usually based overseas, offering worthless warranties of three years on batteries that they know won’t last more than six months. That means unsuspecting consumers are often caught out by poor quality products and the lack of warranty,” Esmaili said. “So that our online shopfront does not compete for their retail customers, they have the assurance that all of our products have an Australian approval number. We are here if anything goes wrong and supply replacements overnight."

The battery or power adaptor product can either be couriered to the store or shipped directly to the customer. Products are also backed up with a 12 month warranty.

It stocks more than 32,000 batteries and AC adapters covering a range of notebook devices.

Esmaili highlighted the advantage of dealing with a local computer store and local warranty conditions. He said the service will help strengthen the relationship between the local computer store and their customers.

“The computer store gains the advantage of making its customers happy while picking up tidy profit margin without incurring any additional cost or activity,” he said.

“When you look at the number of laptops in the market, it exceeds 32,000 models. We have a database that covers all of those models, listing what battery they require and what AC adapter they use. Not only do we have batteries for 95 per cent of these models available in Australia, but we can ship it within a day.”
