Sun Microsystems demonstrated both patronage of the arts and a clean pair of heels as it tangoed the night away at Musica Viva's recent "Be tempted to tango" black-tie gala.
Sun has been sponsoring Musica Viva for longer than Paul Mercurio's acting career (well, quite a bit longer, actually) and was tripping the light fandango to support music programs around Australia.
Musica Viva's mission is to present live performances of ensemble music from around the world to stimulate and enrich the widest possible range of audiences. It is arguably the world's largest entrepreneur of chamber and fine ensemble music.
The evening is one of the organisation's principal fund-raising activities, drawing hundreds of guests to Sydney's Westin Hotel. As well as a formal dinner and demonstrations from professional tango performers, the night was host to a major auction.
With artwork, weekend getaways and a plethora of other goodies going under the hammer, the auction climaxed with the final lot: the chance to be guest composer for an original piece of music commissioned by Musica Viva.
