Getronics to roll out $1.3m server deal for RTA

Services giant, Getronics has won a $1.3 million contract with The NSW Roads and Traffic Authority (RTA) for 400 servers at 170 sites.

Getronics, which maintains the RTA's servers in its motor registries, will supply and install the servers to RTA locations in NSW by the end of October.

In August, 180 of the servers, which are content engines (Web servers), were deployed to support the RTA's compulsory test for new drivers, the Driver Hazard Perception Test.

For this part of the rollout, Getronics installed the slimline (1RU) Sun Netra X1 rack-mounted appliance. The Web servers will be integrated into each of the RTA motor registries' IT infrastructures.

The remaining 320 servers are branch servers, all of which will be installed by the end of October, Getronics IT spokesman Norman Walker said.

This latest RTA win follows a multimillion dollar LAN/WAN project that Getronics started for the RTA in early 2000.
