Let’s face it. If you have an iPad, and you have children, the children are going to hijack said iPad on weekends, evenings, and every other time in between.
And that’s where Disney Comics comes in. As the digital cover says, it’s a platform to buy, and then read, the comic books staring everyone’s favourite Disney characters.
The interface is clean and easy to navigate, the digital shop (though the application is a free download, most of the comic books are not) is easy to search for the comics that you want to read. The comics themselves read beautifully on the iPad screen – and indeed one of the great things about the iPad is how well it works as a comic book e-reader.
If you’ve used the Marvel or DC comic applications, it’s virtually the same deal, just with a more children-friendly subject matter.
As a relatively new comic book reader, the content still needs to build up before it becomes essential stuff for Disney fans, but it’s getting better, and a recent update means you can skin the backgrounds to start your favourite characters (Donald Duck). On top of that, you can selectively turn on push notifications to let you know when a new comic staring your favourite character (Donald Duck) is available.
That said, if you are going to let your kids play with the application, you’re going to want to monitor just how they use it. It’s just a little too easy to buy stuff, and you might not appreciate the credit card bill.
Pros: Disney fans and children will love playing around with this.
Cons: Watch the credit card bill if the children to play with this. And content is still a little too light to be essential.
Verdict: It’s still Disney magic in app form. Perfect for keeping the kids quiet in the car on the family vacation.
