New blood at Cortex

Sydney-based Java development house Cortex e-business has recruited a new sales director in Daniel Garnier. Garnier has a wealth of industry experience, most recently as general manager of enterprise solutions at Peakhour, negotiating several partnership agreements such as Peakhour's current Web service provision deal with Pacific Access. Cortex CEO Peter Moore said he hopes Garnier will be establishing more partnerships under his new role at Cortex. Moore said Cortex has recently completed some projects in Hong Kong, Japan and Korea with the aid of a strategic partner.

MicroWay opens .Net site

Software development tools distributor MicroWay has created a .Net resource centre site to encourage its client base to move to the new Microsoft tool. Hosted at, the site contains general information on the new components and tools for .Net, plus information on how best to upgrade from Microsoft's older development tools to Visual Studio .Net. "Australian software developers can find information of specific interest, collected together in an easy-to-access area," said David Looke, managing director of MicroWay.

Avnet backs WebSphere

Avnet is currently hosting training sessions for the latest application development software from IBM's WebSphere in Sydney, with Melbourne to follow in a few weeks. The workshops run for five days each and are aimed at improving the technical and sales skills of existing WebSphere developers. The courses require students to bring along their own hardware (requires W2K Professional or Win2K server with service pack 2 or later, with a PIII 500MHz or higher, at least 512MB of RAM and 4GB of space). Sydney sessions wind up on Friday, March 22 and Melbourne sessions run from Monday, April 8 through to Friday, April 19. Registrations can be made at
