Nextgen Distribution announces its first vendor partner

John Walters' startup to focus closely on Oracle products, while looking to add value with both technical and sales support

John Walters has announced that his lead vendor partner into the future will be Oracle, and his company, Nextgen Distribution will become the second distributor for the vendor in Australia.

Nextgen was created with the goal to push Oracle's growth in the Australian market, according to Walters.

"I was approached by Oracle to think about the possibilities," he said. "The discussions started, and the longer they went on the more sense this made."

Nextgen Distribution will join Avnet in representing Oracle in Australia, and Walters said he had been working hard at setting his fledgling company up to be a strong partner for Oracle locally.

He has invested in earning Nextgen Distribution a Platinum accreditation of Oracle's PartnerNetwork, and though he will be looking for complementary products to fill the gaps in the Oracle stack, the distributor's main focus will be Oracle.

It has also invested in setting up and running Oracle on its own systems.

"I am confident that Oracle wants to engage the channel in a big way moving forwards," Walters said. "I believe they need a fresh face representing them in the market, and someone who is going to align closely with them."

Though Nextgen and Avnet will compete in some areas with Oracle, Walters said he was confident that the overlap would be minimal.

"My philosophy is not to be a me-two company and I have no intention on going head-to-head with Avnet," he said. "We're going to be a value adding distributor in three ways. One is to have good, customer-focused people, second is having the technical knowledge; and we've got a couple of people coming on board already.

"The third is in offering complementary services to resellers. We're looking for differentiation, and I like to think of it like an analogy that we're the new restaurant on the block. We have a very structured approach to the market and we're not just opening the doors to everyone in the immediate future."

Nextgen is expecting to commence transacting by mid-October, and is in the process of setting up Sydney and Melbourne offices, with Brisbane soon to follow.

Walters said he's open to talking to partners in Adelaide and Perth, but the immediate concern will be the eastern seaboard.
