MetroView NZ City GPS Navigation
Cost: $6.99 | Developer: MetroView Systems | Platform: iPhone and iPad | Version 1.5.2 | 209 MB | 3.1.2+
Given that many Australians have been travelling to New Zealand to watch Aussie games in the Rugby World Cup, Australian navigation software provider, MetroView Systems, in partnership with GeoSmart, recently launched the MetroView NZ City GPS Navigation app.
It doesn't require travellers to purchase a complete car navigation device or a map planning the matches, the creators believe the app is a world first of its kind.
The car navigation app allows users to purchase full car navigation for a single city or region in New Zealand and also includes a rich range of Rugby-based points of interest (POI) specific to Rugby World Cup 2011.
The MetroView NZ City app features the most up-to-date map data and incorporates the latest road projects.
Additionally, as part of this special release, the NZ City app includes plenty of POI specific to Rugby World 2011 – including fan zones, REAL NZ Festival sites, stadiums, Rugby training venues and temporary accommodation sites.
It allows users to listen to and control music and podcasts right from within the application using the iPad/iPhone button.
Music automatically mutes if there is a navigation instruction. If users have appointments (with an address) in their mobile’s calendar or require a contact off their contacts list, they can also navigate directly to them.
Pros: It’s a navigation app with Rugby-based POIs.
Cons: Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life.
Verdict: Perfect for rugby fanatics travelling to NZ.
