Global news agency, Agence France-Presse (AFP) will launch its iPad app in English at the annual conference of the Online News Association.
The new offering, free of charge, provides access to a selection of worldwide news in real-time, direct from the application’s homepage, with links to the latest stories, videos and pictures.
AFP has also added another view of the world through a magazine section – specially conceived for the iPad by the AFP multimedia department.
Two sections with stories, photos, videos and graphics provide feature stories and news analysis.
Some of the content is also available on the iPhone application launched by AFP in January 2010 in five languages (English, Spanish, Portuguese, German and Arabic).
The iPad applications in Spanish and Portuguese will be launched in November.
AFP is also developing a series of on-demand themed photo applications dedicated to key events, highlights of the year, or the greats of history.
In the next few weeks, the first application, Eye on a New Century – a compendium of the agency’s best photos from the first decade of the XXI Century, will be released. It will be priced at $3.99.
With the launch of these applications and others in the future for mobile platforms, AFP aims to consolidate its presence in the mobile market, a key priority in the months and years ahead.
