A new survey by Australian Web content management solutions provider, Squiz, has found that three-quarters of Australian businesses plan to invest in creating mobile websites over the next 12 months, while one in four of them will grow investment in their overall Web presence by more than 50 per cent.
The survey of 75 public and private sector organisational IT, Web developer and Web content managers revealed that more than half of the respondents will add social media features to their Web content functionality.
The company found that when respondents faced the challenge of handling Web-based content, 60 per cent of organisations currently suffer a moderate impact to their business through the inability of website users to discover assets using search or navigation tools.
Another issue frequently resulting in a negative impact to the business is a shortage of standardised metadata for managing critical information.
One in four organisations claim to have issues with implementing metadata standards while the same number of respondents are unable to easily define the ROI of their Web content.
The company also looked into the deployment of websites, which suggested one in four organisations are challenged by the costs involved and one in three are restrained by time and resources.
The survey also investigated Cloud deployment and found that two-thirds of organisations believe that its benefits outweigh any alleged risks – such as security, data sovereignty and compliance.
Twenty-two per cent of IT managers felt they are under more pressure from top management to procure Cloud services although only two respondents felt that the onset of Cloud computing could possibly shrink the IT team.
Squiz managing director, John Paul Syriatowicz, said the Web content management market is a buoyant sector for investment by Australian organisations despite the current economic uncertainty.
At the same time, users also want seamless access to Web content on a vast range of devices.
“The survey would suggest that IT managers are playing somewhat of a catch up to mobilise content and add social media features for a workforce increasingly being characterised by BYO devices and employee demands and by customers who want a quality Web service experience across all communications channels and devices,” he said.
The survey also found that in selecting a Web content management vendor, all respondents viewed service and support as critical in any future technology partner selection while 85 per cent of them feel any new solution integrating with existing applications is vital.
