Blue Sky scores CyberGuard security gig

Specialist networking distributor Blue Sky Industries has been appointed the sole authorised distributor of CyberGuard enterprise firewalls in Australia and New Zealand.

The 23-year-old consulting-based distributor offers configuration, consulting and associated services to resellers and integrators in the security space. Under the terms of the agreement, Blue Sky Industries will provide training, certification and 24x7 support for CyberGuard's appliance firewall and VPN (virtual private network) products.

Martin Kaldor, director of Blue Sky Industries, said the distributor was appointed due to its Unix, Tarantella and information security expertise, as well as its established reseller partnerships. The company is also exploring other distribution agreements.

CyberGuard's firewall appliance has a Defence Signals Directorate listing that meets "Common Criteria EAL-4", meaning the product can be sold to government-related industries. Geared towards large enterprises, Blue Sky will target the firewalls at the government, defence, legal, medical and health sectors through a network of resellers such as 90East, Marconi, SecureNet, Citadel, CDM, Trilogy and Corporate Showcase.

CyberGuard's appliance firewalls feature logging and auditing functions, local and remote management, scalability, change management and fallback capabilities and traffic analysis.

Blue Sky expects to sell into the hundreds of units for the first financial year, according to Kaldor.

CyberGuard president Pat Clawson, who is in Australia to evangelise the product, claimed the move to appoint a distributor is the direct result of a successful channel strategy in other regions.

The entry-level CyberGuard firewall, FireSTAR, has an RRP of $27,000.
