APP OF THE DAY: Remote

Puts control of your iTunes or Apple TV in the palm of your hand

Remote
Cost: Free | Developer:Apple | Platform: Apple | Version 2.1.1 | 14.8MB | 3.1.2+

Here’s an app for the lazy. If you own iTunes and Apple TV, you can now control them from your iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad via a Wi-Fi network.

Installing and connecting it is a breeze. Ensure your device is on the same local Wi-Fi network as the Apple TV or PC/Mac you want to control. A four-digit code will be provided to pair the iOS device to iTunes or the Apple TV, and that’s it.

This app allows you to pick playlists, change songs and browse through albums from anywhere in your home – as if you were right in front of your Apple TV or computer. Use your fingers to pause, rewind, fast forward, shuffle and adjust the volume from your iOS devices.

The QWERTY keyboard can be utilised to enter text of a title to search for a song or album, instead of having to click the letters on the Apple TV screen.

The latest version allows AirPlay video support to control iTunes on your computer and stream videos to an Apple TV. It also enables you to access Internet radio to play thousands of Internet radio streams in iTunes.

Pros: Puts control of your iTunes or Apple TV in the palm of your hand.

Cons: Drains battery pretty quickly.

Verdict: An easy to use must-have.
