ModusLink Global Solutions subsidiary, Open Channel Solutions (OCS), has been appointed Australian distributor for European network security vendor, NETASQ.
Negotiation for the deal with NETASQ started earlier in the year when the security vendor came into contact with OCS to discuss potential partnership opportunities.
“Based on that initial meeting, we saw that the products they were selling were very much of interest to us, as we had not been in that space before and wanted to get into it,” OCS managing director, Con Fiamegos, said.
“We already work with other security vendors, so NETASQ’s Unified Threat Management [UTM] offerings are within the realm of our vendor group and the sales model ensured that vendors weren’t competing against each other.”
NETASQ will rely on the Australian distributor to handle distribution within the region and will also leverage OCS’ existing regional operational infrastructures to drive local revenue to anywhere between $500,000 to $800,000.
“NETASQ is quite a successful company in Europe and is branching out into the Asian market, and Australia is the second market after Singapore that they are trying to move into,” Fiamegos said.
“We’re excited to be the first distributor for their products in Australia and the advantages that come with being in that position.”
Fiamegos emphasises that the deal is still in the early stage, with an engineer being trained up and now going out and recruiting resellers interested in selling UTM products.
As a result, attractive margins are also available for resellers compared to competitive products.
“Integrators and end users are always looking for an alternative UTM product that has the same type of capabilities NETASQ do,” Fiamegos said.
“We now have an offering on the table for our resellers and integrators to look at other UTM vendors rather than the traditional ones out there today.”
