Software runs Windows and Mac applications side-by-side on a Mac without rebooting

Virtualisation and automation software provider, Parallels, latest Desktop 6 for Mac enterprise edition virtualisation software runs Windows and Mac applications side-by-side on a Mac without rebooting.

The software was designed to provide enterprise IT departments with a configurable, policy compliant support for easier deployment of Windows-based business applications for Mac users.

Parallels vice-president of marketing, Kim Johnston, said the software simplified end-user workflow and extended productivity by running Windows programs like they are native to the Mac – regardless of network connectivity.

Some key features of the solution include: unified volume license activation key, streamlined business GUI, a configurable software update policy and a local update server option.

Research firm, Information Technology Intelligence Consulting, predicted that the percentage of large enterprises with more than 250 Macs and/or Apple devices in the organisation will grow by 267 per cent by in the five years between 2010 and 2015, increasing from 12 per cent to 32 per cent.

It is reinforced by another recent survey by Lab 42 for Parallels, which showed 58 per cent of respondents said their employers now allow them to choose a Mac or a PC as their work computer.

The solution is available as an annual subscription service.
