Storage industry pioneer, Western Digital (WD), has introduced its latest generation My Book Studio external hard drives designed for use with Mac computers and Apple Time Machine.
Though the hard drives are formatted for Mac computers, they can also be reformatted for PCs.
The My Book Studio external hard drives now come with a 3TB storage capacity and in a new design – featuring a brushed aluminium casing to match the appearance of a Mac computer.
WD executive vice-president and general manager, Jim Welsh, said the company updated the design of its My Book Studio drive to provide natural cooling features delivered by the new aluminium enclosure.
The aluminium exterior is combined with a WD Caviar Green series of internal hard drives with WD GreenPower technology and eliminates the need for an internal fan to reduce drive noise and extend the life of the drive.
The hard drives are available in the traditional 1TB and 2TB capacities.
Other features include: FireWire800/400 and USB 2.0 interfaces, user-controlled automatic backup software and drive management, password protection and hardware encryption.
“The drive will maintain all the features that are important to the creative community,” Welsh said.
Prices on the My Book Studio external hard drives start at $179.99 in Australia and $NZ249.99 in New Zealand, and include a three-year limited warranty.
They are available from WD’s Australian online store and distributors Synnex Australia and Simms International in Australia and Synnex NZ and Ingram Micro NZ in New Zealand.
