ISO standard important factor in Klikon’s Kloud

Gaining ISO 27001 security managment standard has played a vital role in attracting customers to Klikon's cloud offering

Services provider, Klikon Solutions, has placed a significant investment into its Kloud offering and gaining the ISO 27001 security management standard has played a vital role.

Klikon managing director, Harry Kassianou, said it went down the path of gaining ISO 27001 because it believes it is a critical aspect to delivering a cloud service to its customers.

“That is equally as important as us building our cloud services,” Kassianou said. “This is a real game changer for Klikon and it’s changing the whole business.”

Kassianou said it conducted research into what customers wanted, what they were looking for and how Klikon was going to tailor the cloud service for them.

“We leveraged a lot of the information that came out and it was obvious to us that the technology is important and has to be robust, but really the customer expects a service,” he said.

The Klikon Kloud encompasses four types of offerings including private cloud, a hybrid model as well as hosted backup, disaster recovery and VoIP. It has two datacentre sites located in the Sydney CBD and western Sydney.

So far, it has signed up customers across legal and government sectors to its cloud offering.

“Having the ISO 27001 was a critical catalyst for those clients,” he said.

Klikon has always maintained a managed services arm, but cloud computing and its security implications have defined the offering.

“The investment we’ve made into the cloud is ongoing especially with our people and as new customers come onboard,” he said. “This is a big strategy and focus for us over the next few years. We’re still going to continue to do our traditional technical and hardware sales, but our focus and strategy is on what we’re doing in the cloud.”

Going from helping customers maintain their own data on-premise, to maintaining their data off-site is a different game, Kassianou said.

“Traditionally when we’d be working on customer networks, it would be on their premises, and you’re obliged to fit into their processes, change control to protect their own data. Now that it’s sitting in our own premise, we’re required to provide our own controls around that, both from a security and ownership perspective as well. There’s also the legalities around that and making sure that we’re all protected and covered.”
