Advantech calls home

Advantech has released the first of its Web payphones, the ES-510. The unit is an integrated public service platform equipped with digital video/audio communication, touch-screen LCD monitor and an embedded CCD camera. The product has won the Silver National Award of Excellence from the Ministry of Economic Affairs and more than 2,000 have been installed throughout Asia. The ES-510 is designed to offer the public instant Internet access, online shopping via the LCD touch-screen and card reader, and a data communication and transforming service. It can link to the user's PDA, notebook or mobile phone via an infrared link. Users can pay their bills, make voice/video calls and send e-postcards to their friends and family. Advantech claims the Web payphone will pave the way for a new generation of payphones. Pricing on the ES-series starts at $10,000 and the unit is available
