He will start his new role as the Symantec.cloud Asia Pacific and Japan vice-president in the next few weeks, Symantec spokesperson, Debbie Sassine, said.
As part of the new post, he will be based in Singapore.
Bjorn Engelhardt previously occupied the role, but he has taken on a new position as the vice-president of specialist sales for Asia Pacific and Japan.
Smith resigned from CA last week and had been with the company since 2005. In the meantime, Chris Wilson, has stepped in as the acting area vice-president, while a permanent replacement is being sought.
The security vendor rebranded its MessageLabs business to Symantec.cloud in February.
Symantec purchased the email security vendor in 2008 for $US695 million.
