Security vendor, Symantec, will be reducing its headcount within one of its engineering teams based in North Sydney.
The vendor did not disclose how many jobs have been affected by the decision. A spokesperson for the vendor said it was currently in consultation with affected staff whose roles may be impacted by the decision and was exploring alternative employment options within the company.
According to a report in The Australian the security vendor plans to outsource some its software engineering development work. Symantec has R&D facilities in countries such as India, China, Japan and US.
The move comes as the vendor is globally consolidating a small number of positions in certain development and product engineering roles to improve productivity and drive operational efficiencies.
“Symantec remains committed to its customers and partners in Australia and these changes do not affect customer-facing teams in this region,” the spokesperson said. “We will continue to have a R&D team located at the North Sydney site.”
