HP has set its sights on becoming the number one tablet producer in the world.
The Daily Telegraph reports that HP's European head Eric Cador reckons that the company's Touchpad has got what it takes to beat Apple's iPad.
"In the PC world, with fewer ways of differentiating HP's products from our competitors, we became number one; in the tablet world we're going to become better than number one. We call it number one plus," he said.
According to analyst firm Strategy Analytics the iPad had a 75 percent share of the tablet market in the fourth quarter of 2010, with Android tablets taking 22 percent.
More recent figures from Businessweek show that iPad sales are so strong that even the laptop market is suffering.
The HP Touchpad, which hasn't yet launched, runs on the WebOS platform developed by HP's Palm division. HP believes that the corporate market is where it can beat the iPad, by appealing to both enterprise and consumers, according to Cador.
"The way the user is going to look at tablets means it's about experience. The way the corporate is going to look at it is to say that its employees, who are also consumers, have got to like it and it's got to be secure. We're going to deliver that," he said.
