Canon has released a new wide format printer to the channel. The BJ-W9000 prints on media up to 43 inches in width and can handle sheets up to BO size on coated, glossy or semi-glossy paper as well as glossy film. The printer combines a resolution of 1200x600 dpi with fast printing speeds - Canon estimates a poster-sized print would take around seven minutes to produce. It does this using multiple print head chassis; chips are arranged on both sides of the chassis and these provide the maximum print exposure in both forward and reverse passes. Canon has also incorporated its Microfine Droplet technology for consistent ink droplets and uses six colours: the usual CMYK plus Photo Cyan and Photo Magenta ink. The BJ-W9000 also uses an ink-detection system, which automatically refills the ink tanks and tells users when to replace the main ink bottles. The printer supports Windows 95, 98, 2000 and NT and Apple's Mac OS and will retail for $19,000. It is available immediately.www.canon.com.au.
