Microsoft adds to XP

As the October 25 launch date for the XP operating system draws closer, Microsoft has announced an add-on software package, Microsoft Plus! for Windows XP.

The package includes enhanced digital media tools, games and desktop themes in the same way that Plus! enhanced Microsoft's Windows 95 release. However, the new offering also uses new technologies such as Plus! Voice Command, which allows users to control Windows Media Player by speaking commands to the computer. The add-on software also uses digital signal-processing technology to boost the clarity and richness of many PC speakers.

Additional features include a CD Label Maker and MP3 Audio Converter, as well as a host of animated characters that dance to the music in Windows Media Player. New games include arcade bowling game Hyperbowl Plus!, the 3D maze The Labyrinth Plus! and a puzzle game, Russian Square Plus!

Microsoft Plus! for Windows XP's release will coincide with XP's October 25 launch, and will retail for $82.
