HP has released its first in-line colour printer: the HP Color LaserJet 4600. The new design allows the device to print at the same speed in monochrome or colour, according to HP. Four front-loading print cartridges are stacked on top of each other, resulting in a print speed that is four times faster than the 4600 predecessor, the LaserJet 4550. The new printer prints A4-size documents at 16 pages per minute, powered by a 400MHz processor and up to 416MB memory. It also includes an embedded Web server that lets administrators manage the device remotely from a standard Web browser, or through HP's WebJet Admin software. The 4600 series also includes trapping technology to help combat the problems of mis-registration, edge control features to smooth text and graphics, and improved toner. The printers are available now, priced at $4,830 for the 4600 model and $7,495 for the 4600dtn.www.hp.com.
