The Disc Shop sits tight on national expansion

Queensland-based computer wholesaler, The Disc Shop, has postponed plans to launch into the NSW market, citing the need to overhaul its internal operations structure.

The company's marketing manager, Ross Edwards, said although the group was keen to push into other states across Australia, it was working on revamping its business model to ensure cost efficiencies could be maintained.

"We had a Coffs Harbour location planned," he said. "Distribution wasn't a problem, but the company is now so large, we need to implement the necessary internal structures first before expanding.

"It's still on the cards, but not on paper yet."

The Disc Shop now has 11 stores across Queensland.

To help manage the growing chain, Edwards said the company had relocated its head office from its store in Mansfield to its own premises in Coopers Plains.

"Having a separate head office has improved our business a lot," he said. "It makes it a lot easier to move stock in and out. We've also got larger warehousing facilities."

Edwards said the company was also now looking to employ area managers to oversee its regional stores. Other improvements included more effective marketing systems, Edwards said.

"We're starting to move out of the small business model into becoming a corporate structure," he said. "By the end of the year we want to be of a standard that other companies can model their businesses on."
