Vocus picks up 59km of dark fibre network

Acquires assets of Digital River networks for $3.95m

Vocus Communications (ASX:VOC) has acquired the assets of national dark fibre network operator, Digital River Networks Pty Ltd for $3.95 million.

The main assets are 59km of dark fibre located mainly in the Melbourne and Sydney CBDs and the associated customer contracts for supply of dark fibre and metro ethernet services.

Vocus CEO, James Spenceley, said, "The addition of a dark fibre network brings a new product set to the company allowing Vocus to provide bundled metro fibre services with existing datacentre and IP transit products on a network entirely owned by Vocus."

The company expects to make further investments in the fibre network to enhance its reach and sales.

The transaction is expected to be earnings accretive in the second half of the FY2012 and funded from existing cash reserves.

Completion of the sale is expected within the next four weeks subject to conditions precedent.
