Rumours are circulating that AMD is sporting a ‘for sale’ sign and Dell could be the interested buyer of the $US6 billion chip giant.
The rumours come in the wake of recent departures of senior executives – COO Robert Rivet and Marty Seyer packed their bags last week, while CEO Dirk Meyer stepped down in January.
The departures leave several important openings at the top of the management food chain.
In light of all the chatter, the company’s share price rose by about five per cent since Friday’s close.
Analysts have reportedly confirmed to Bloomberg that there is “chatter” about a potential sale – largely due to speculation the departure of top executives has made it an acquisition target.
