ItX had been in discussions with SonicWall prior to the acquisition by Avnet, according to Avnet general manager for distribution, Greg Newham.
“We saw a gap in our security portfolio and they came along at the right time,” Newham said. “We expect it to be a reasonable vendor for us, adding incremental value to the business.”
He was not sure at this stage whether any of Avnet’s own vendor line-up would be competitive with the SonicWall portfolio, but Newham said should such a conflict arise, it would be handled much the same way as other competitive products have been.
“As a distributor you constantly face an issue where vendors acquire other vendors that then introduce competitive products to the portfolio,” he said.
Under the agreement, Avnet will offer resellers the full range of SonicWall products, ranging from intelligent firewalls, unified threat management, SSL VPNs, email security and continuous data protection.
In a statement, SonicWall country manager, Dean Redman, said the relationship between Avnet and SonicWall would provide mutual growth opportunities for solution providers.
Avnet joins Lan 1 and 24/7 Distribution.
In 2009, the vendor underwent a number of changes to its distribution network, severing ties with Ingram Micro and Infotronics in 2009.
