The Optus mobile network is operational in Mackay, Cairns, Townsville and other regional centres after Cyclone Yasi descended on North Queensland, which brought down communication services.
Around 30 base stations on the Optus Open Network were affected and more than 20 base stations were restored yesterday.
Mobile services at Mission Beach are down but portable satellite mobile bases have been deployed. Mobile services in Cardwell were unavailable as of February 6.
Network capacity in the regions impacted by the cyclone has been prioritised for voice and SMS services.
The Optus Reef Network which connects Brisbane and Cairns is operational.
Optus has opened up its customer assistance package to victims of Cyclone Yasi. The package provides extended payment period, late payment fee waivers as well as fixed-line call diversions to Optus customers affected by the natural disaster.
The telco also has portable Internet kiosks and customer service trailers set up to provide communication services in the area.
