Melbourne music product distri-butor TECO Multimedia claimed a world-first when introducing a new interactive music product from Geelong production company, Stargate Multimedia Productions last week. The CD-ROM based product, called Music For Websites, is designed to allow Web sites to have high quality music added to them, thus enhancing the multimedia experience gained by visitors.
To be sold as a retail product both in Australia and overseas, Music For Websites utilises the latest Real Audio streaming technology to allow home, business and professional Web site developers alike to incorporate real music into their online presence through home pages.
Anthony McMahon, general manager of TECO, told ARN that Music For Websites introduces a whole new interactive, online music category that will change the way people associate sound with Web sites.
"The CD is basically a digital recording of very high quality copyright-free music with a clipboard process built in where users will be able to select and edit music tracks and then incorporate them as background audio behind a site's graphics and text," said McMahon. "The product will stream audio in real time to the people who click onto the Web site. It throws out an applet to Web site visitors and then immediately starts to stream audio direct to their PCs.
"Home entertainment these days is all about the full multimedia experience. Computer users already get music from their games and multimedia reference CDs, so they'll be expecting to get the same from the Web sites they visit," he said.
The CD includes the Real Audio streaming software and Cakewalk express editing as well as over 60 minutes of original music composed and produced by former Melbourne film, television and advertising musician Ray Rivamonte.
The music has been specifically designed for easy manipulation and editing.
Claiming that one of the chief objectives of the development team was to ensure broad and easy usability - even by novices - McMahon said. "Anyone with a PC sound card will be able to use it and anyone who wants to develop a Web site will find it friendly."
McMahon said Music For Websites joins the list of over 200 hardware products and software titles that TECO distribute in the music category and that it represents a huge growth market. "We search the world for the best music-related products and just can't get enough of them. There is a real cry from consumers for these type of products and demand is accelerating exponentially," he saidMusic For Websites goes on sale nationally this month with a reseller margin of 30 per cent. It will have a recommended retail price of $79.95.
