Commonwealth Bank customers around the country are experiencing problems accessing their banking details from ATMs. The organisation has over 11 million customers.
Users are able to withdraw cash from ATMs, but the remaining balance is shown as “$0.00”. When the user attempts to use the account balance function, an error message is displayed.
The problem is identical to one that affected the bank’s users in December 2010.
According to one Commonwealth Bank staff member ARN spoke to, the issue was affecting customers around all around Australia. The staff member did not know the cause of the issue.
Fortunately bank teller operations and Internet banking operations appear to be functioning without error.
According to a Commonwealth Bank spokesperson, the issue was a minor performance issue that disrupted "a very small number of ATMs intermittently." In a statement the bank claimed the problems would be fixed during a routine software maintenance update overnight.
"We apologise to customers for any inconvenience it may have caused," the statement said.
