It is difficult not to notice the ear-piercing siren of the Defcon 3 notebook alarm from Targus. The sound alarm can be attached to any notebook carry case via a stainless steel cable and can be activated from a key-ring remote control from a distance of up to 10 metres. If the cable is severed or the case moved or shaken, the Defcon 3 emits a 94 decibel alarm, deterring thieves even in noisy environments and helping to do away with the need for thick cables and chains in notebook security. The alarm also has an LED (light emitting diode) that lets the owner know when it is armed. The alarm retails for $110 and is available from Tech Pacific, Ingram Micro and Advanced Portable Technologies.
