3ware Escalade storage switch cards are IDE RAID controllers that operate like Ethernet switches, dynamically directing data flow between hard drives in the array, allowing for parallel reading and writing at over 170MB/sec and 70MB/sec respectively. Each drive is completely isolated from others in the set so single drive failure will never disrupt the array. These cards are ideal for low and mid-end servers or mass data storage devices such as near-line tape library replacements. The cards are designed for use in Windows and Linux systems, are 64-bit, ATA-133 compliant and retail for between $300 for a 2-port Escalade and $1,500 for an 8-port, RAID 5 optimised ASIC version. Servex currently offers resellers 1.28TB of "switched" IDE storage for $4,950 (ex GST).
