Who says storage isn't sexy? Not LaCie. The vendor has just announced its new d2 design for multimedia users. The new model will house hard disks, CD and DVD drives as well as backup drives and was designed by Paris-based, Scottish designer Neil Poulton. The d2 features an aluminium and Zamac alloy case and comes in four configuration options: a space-saving design with slide-on footplate, a horizontal stack, a desk rack which stacks up to four drives, and an add-on rack-mounting kit. The unit will automatically switch on or off when connected via USB 2.0 or Firewire to the computer and SCSI interface support is also available. The LaCie d2 design will be available this month and will gradually be rolled out across the range for hard disks, DVD-R/RW, CD-RW and Backup drives. A 120GB hard disk model will retail for $729 while the 160GB model will cost $899 and will be available on July 15.
