IBM has released a new storage system specifically catering for the mid-market arena.
The new product, Storwize V7000, is aimed at optimising workloads such as transaction processing and real-time analytics.
The system aims to help users simplify administrative tasks and can reduce storage rack space by up to 67 per cent, Big Blue claims.
The V7000 will be integrated with IBM's SAN Volume Controller, which helps users enable storage virtualisation. They can also extend the virtualisation capability to other types of storage in their environment.
Another feature, Easy Tier, enables users to effectively use solid state drives and spreads data as required through the system.
IBM A/NZ storage platform sales leader, Anna Wells, said the company invested $US6 billion into research and development.
She highlighted that businesses were faced with many challenges when it came to data growth. They included storage budget allocation, datacentre space, power, cooling and additional management responsibilities.
“This is a fully integrated product that brings a whole lot of capability together for the customer,” she said.
IBM will provide partners with enablement capabilities and work with them on individual sales opportunities, Wells said.
“They can bring a level of expertise in the sales and technical process as the product gets up and going,” she said. “Having access to specialised resources, from a channel point of view, is an important aspect."
IBM storage product manager, Gavin Toovey, said it would conduct a series of seminars and roadshows for resellers to supply an overview and features of the latest release.
Toovey said some resellers could buy direct from Big Blue.
Other new IBM products include System Storage DS8800, which offers up to 40 per cent faster performance than its predecessor.
The vendor also enhanced its Tivoli Storage Productivity Centre v4.2 for midrange systems and its Systems Director Storage Control software, which manages storage servers and network technology through a single interface that aims to reduce storage management, complexity, risk and cost.
Storwize V7000 will ship in Australia from November. Pricing starts from $70,000 excluding GST. It will be available through Ingram Micro and Avnet Technology Solutions.
