This 2TB desktop hard drive is designed to be more energy efficient than its rivals. The serial ATA drive operates at a relatively low temperature and with less noise thanks to a slower spin speed. When idle, it produces 24dBA and this increases to 29dBA when active. Energy is saved through this method too, but the vendor will not confirm what the spin speed is. WD claims the hard drive uses 6W of power when reading or writing and 3.7W when idle. This drops to 0.8W when in standby or sleep mode. The device has a 3Gbp interface speed and can operate at temperatures of between 0 and 60 degrees Celsius. When not running, it can be stored in temperatures of -40 to 70 degrees Celsius without accruing damage. It comes with a cache size of 64MB. The hard drive measures 147 x 101.6 x 26.1mm and weighs 730g. RRP $139 Distributed by Achieva Australia and Synnex Web www.wdc.com/en
