VMware has appointed John Donovan as its new director for partner organisations across A/NZ.
Donovan will take the reins as of November 1 and will continue his position at Novell as its Asia-Pacific vice-president of alliance and channel sales until then.
VMware Australia managing director, Paul Harapin, said Donovan would be responsible for defining and implementing its partner strategy across the region.
"John is a well known and respected professional with more than 20 years in the IT industry, and he joins VMware at a key time in our company’s growth as we continue to help our customers and partners accelerate their transition to cloud computing," Harapin said.
The VMware role was previously occupied by Fred King, who abruptly departed in June.
Prior to joining Novell, Donovan had spent about 12 years with security vendor, Symantec.
He joined the company in 1995 as US-based distribution marketing manager before taking up local channel sales in 1997.
Donovan was promoted to managing director in 1999 and then headed up its channels in Asia-Pacific Japan in 2005.
