Cameron steps into the role previously occupied by Andrew Baker, who has moved into IBM’s growth markets business unit as the Avnet client director. The growth markets include Asia-Pacific, Brazil and Russia.
For several years he was also the channel manager for both Lenovo and IBM. Prior to that, Cameron worked with Toshiba. He was also inducted into the ARN Hall of Fame in 2008 for his contribution to the IT industry.
Avnet marketing director, Michael Costigan, said IBM was one of its major suppliers not only in Asia, but also globally.
"With Andrew on-board we're very excited because he brings years of experience with him in the channel and he was instrumental in 2001 in getting the Avnet relationship in Australia off the ground," Costigan said.
Baker's role would provide more focus and the ability to introduce some of Avnet's programs driven from North America and EMEA into the Asia-Pacific level, he said.
"We'll have a much more strategic engagement. It's a sign that Avnet is growing its Asia-Pacific presence," he said.
