Juniper emphasises developer investment

The vendor will look to establish an online portal for developers to host their applications

Juniper Networks is planning to launch a developer network over the next half-year.

The vendor has set aside $US50 million in the Junos Innovation Fund to invest in developers that can innovate within the Junos ecosystem, vice-president and general manager of Junos Space Business, Mike Harding, said.

"We're looking at all different types of applications that can be hosted on systems across the Junos space," Harding said."We're paying special attention to developers that have ideas to take advantage of two or more of the Junos platforms."

As a result of having the fund, the vendor has received over 180 requests for evaluation and is encouraging more.

Developers that take part gain access to training, APIs, software infrastructure, sample code, online support and a portal to host their application on. The portal will be open to customers where they can gain access to all the different types of applications, which go through a rigorous approval process beforehand. The program is invite-only at this stage, but Harding said that model will change.

"The partner will potentially gain value from reaching a broader, global customer base," he said. "We are committed to our partners, we need them to be successful and we’re investing in our partners whether it be demand creation, marketing, technical infrastructure, training and so on.”
