PowerQuest

PowerExpert SRM is a storage resource management solution for Windows NT/2000 servers, which provides reporting and policy management to eliminate downtime, manage content and maximise storage investment. PowerExpert SRM 5.0 lets administrators identify, control and optimise storage efficiency, block unwanted file types, allocate appropriate space controls for applications, directories and users, and perform fast and easy file clean-ups through Web-based storage management reports. It retails for $2,117 (per server licence) and volume discounts are available.

Brocade

The 8-port, 2Gbps Brocade SilkWorm 3200 Entry Fabric Switch is ideal for small and medium businesses and for enterprises implementing departmental and workgroup storage area networks (SANs). In conjunction with StorageTek's expansive storage solutions, the SilkWorm 3200 simplifies SAN deployment, enabling customers to cost-effectively migrate from direct-attached storage environments. The SilkWorm 3200 supports Windows NT/2000, Linux, and Unix server clustering applications. It provides a highly scalable back end for network-attached storage (NAS) devices, and serves as a stepping stone to enterprise-wide SAN deployment. It retails for $15,333 (ex GST).

Network Appliance

NetApp's NearStore R100 provides economical, scalable and easily managed secondary storage that integrates seamlessly within network infrastructures. Consolidating backups improves data management by enabling customers to back up any vendor's systems to one appliance before archiving to tape. This relieves primary storage from time-consuming direct backup to tape, increasing availability of servers and storage for applications. Backup data recovery is faster, reducing operational downtime and associated business impacts. It is available in configurations scaling to 96TB. It costs less than 4 cents per megabyte and is sold in blocks of 12 terabytes.

Adaptec

Adaptec's ASA-7211 iSCSI Adapter is being touted as the first ASIC-based iSCSI HBA that fully offloads processing from the host CPU. The card uses Adaptec's Storage Protocol Accelerator (SPA) ASIC, which is the first ASIC-based TCP/IP Offload Engine (TOE) to deliver data transfer rates up to 2Gbps (full duplex). It also boasts 1 Gigabit Ethernet NIC and supports both Initiator and Target functionality simultaneously. It supports File I/O and Block I/O concurrently, has a 64-bit/66MHz PCI bus and supports multiple OS platforms. It is available in fibre-optic (ASA-7211F) and copper (ASA-7211C) versions. The ASA-7211 iSCSI Adapter will be available in Australia in November.

The product is targeted at SMEs and will be distributed by Tech Pacific: 1300 654 534, Lan 1: 02 9319 6411, Digiland: 1300 652 005 and Synnex: 1300 880 038. Pricing is not yet available. www.adaptec.com.

ADTX

The ADTX K-Series storage system is designed with content creators in mind. These SCSI RAID systems reach speeds exceeding 110MB per second on a single SCSI bus and over 200MB per second on a dual bus host. The K-Series is ideally suited for high-performance servers and for storing standard and high-definition video. It can store up to eight hours of video on each 720GB cabinet and be scaled to over 18TB. Drives are hot-swappable and can be removed from the front panel without using tools and without having to remove the RAID from the rack.

The ADTX K-Series is priced from $11,500 for a rack-mount system with 480GB of storage and is distributed in Australia by Future Reality: 02 9906 5455. www.future.com.au. www.adtx.com.
