CSC is offering a voluntary extended leave program under which employees can take at least six months leave with 20 per cent pay.
The program is open to the company's 66,000 employees worldwide, according to Frank Pollare, a spokesman for the US$11.5 billion IT services company.
The program "is a continuation of our cost-containment efforts and will provide an opportunity for employees to pursue personal interests while still getting some income from the company," Pollare said. The company has not set a goal on how many employees it hopes will take advantage of the program.
CSC cut about 2000 jobs last year and reduced its overall administration costs. This year, the company has not cut any additional jobs as part of its cost-containment efforts, Pollare said.
