Retailers looking to establish an online trading presence are the target of Open Market's latest product.
ShopSite is Open Market's package for small and medium- sized businesses (SMBs), which was acquired along with ICentral for $US10 million earlier this year.
It is an online store creation and management application designed for small operators who want an affordable Internet shopfront.
"It will bridge the gap between small and medium companies that know they need to get on the Internet and large companies that are on the Net and want to do commerce on it," said Gary Eichhorn, president and CEO of Open Market.
"It allows a merchant who is only using a Web browser to create a storefront," he said.
Users can set up a shopfront in a matter of hours; however, the site is limited to about 1000 products. Eichhorn said it was ideally suited to retailers with a limited number of products.
Open Market will sell ShopSite through commerce service providers (CSPs) and local resellers. It is designed to work with Transact, Open Market's transaction processing and order management package.
The principle is for CSPs to host the transactions and for the retailers to host the shopfront.
Eichhorn explained that CSPs would host ShopSite, preferably in conjunction with Transact, so the retailers need only log in to the host site and set up their shopfront.
Telstra has already purchased the product, and is hosting it on its Surelink site as part of its Shop Safe program.
