Grace Bros Megamart hits Sydney

Coles Myer has opened its sixth Megamart, bringing its version of the superstore concept to Auburn in Sydney's west. It is the retail giant's first foray into NSW with the Megastore brand, which combines furniture and electricals with a strong focus on PCs and associated hardware and software products.

A 10,000 square metre store, Grace Bros' Auburn Megamart opens tomorrow and is situated in close proximity to the new and improved Harvey Norman computer superstore, announced last month.

Approximately 15 per cent of the floor space is devoted to PCs and related information technology hardware, software and accessories.

Myer Grace Bros managing director Dawn Robertson said PCs represent a "growing category" for the group and that they are a "crucial component" of the Megamart concept.

Meanwhile, Megamart managing director James Galloway insisted that being a completely company-owned store allows for a much better integrated approach than having several different franchises under the one roof, as Harvey Norman does.

"We are very confident that customers will love this new store," he said. "Customers will have peace of mind knowing they are dealing with a long-established company that sells quality brands."

Galloway said the Megamart stores offer the most comprehensive range of information technology Myer Grace Bros has ever assembled. "We have thousands of products on the shelves here at Megamart and access to tens of thousands of others through our sister company Harris Technology, which can be accessed by the sales staff."

Robertson said Megamart has an ace up its sleeve to win the hearts of customers. It is offering what it calls a "complete low-price guarantee", which operates across all the brands across the entire floor. Each day, floor staff in each section will reassess their prices to ensure they are offering the lowest prices.

"We check our prices against all competitors every day and mark down our prices to ensure that we are at that level," Robertson said. "Customers don't have to shop around. They can come here confident in the knowledge that we have the best prices in town."
