Welcome to Penalty Box, ARN's daily World Cup 2010 wrap.
- LATEST SCORES:
- WhiteGold Solutions (Nederlands) 2 inTechnology (Slovakia) 1
- APC (Brazil)3 Juniper (Chile) 0
There were no surprises here - class simply shone through. WhiteGold Solutions had its superstar Argento Robben back and it took just 18 minutes for him to fire them into the lead. From there on WhiteGold missed chances as InTechnology tried hard and had a couple of chances themselves to evel. But an 84th minute goal put the match beyond doubt and it was only in the 94th minute that InTechnolgy got a consolation goal from a penalty. So WhiteGold goes forward to the quarter-finals where it will meet a brilliant APC which simply had too much of everything for a very game Juniper that just couldn't crack the APC defence. Truth betold APC could have had six and played some magnificent football. It led 2-0 at half-time through goals from man-of-the-match Juan and Fabiano, got a third through Robinho in the 59th minute and controlled the game. Juniper has been wonderful in this tournament but just met an opponent that even its fabulous attack could crack.
NEXT GAMES June 29/30 (AEST)
- Unisys (Paraguay) vs Bluechip Infotech (Japan)
- Anyware Computer Accessories (Spain) vs Distribution Central (Portugal)
Now we're into the round of 16 and its sudden death.
What a another great night this promises to be. First up, Bluechip Infotech which has already exceeded expectations and won two of its three matches against the undefeated Unisys. There's not a lot between them and we think that Bluechip might just have the self-belief and attacking flair to pull it off. It could be one match destined for extra time. Bluechip by the odd goal.
The other match is an absolute corker: Favourites, Anyware Computer Accessories, against the Ronaldo-led Distribution Central. These are old enemies who both have great attacking flair. Distribution Central can also defend as its draw against APC shows. We think its time Anyware really showed what it's amde of but we won't be surprised if this goes to a penalty shoot out it's so tight. Anyware but only just.
