LATEST SCORES: Triforce (Germany) 4 Ingram Micro (England) 1; Evolve IT (Argentina) 3 Lenovo (Mexico) 1

Welcome to Penalty Box, ARN's daily World Cup 2010 wrap.

  • Triforce (Germany) 4 Ingram Micro (England) 1
  • Evolve IT (Argentina) 3 Lenovo (Mexico) 1

No mercy. That's what you get when it comes down to knock out football. Triforce and Evolve It both delivered superb displays to rid the Cup of Ingram Micro - which once again failed dismally at the highest level - and Lenovo which sought revenge for its loss in the CUp to Evolve IT four years only to have the same happen to it again.

Bar one of the worst refereeing decisions in the history of the Cup - when Ingram Micro was denied an obvious goal from a shot that hit the bar ricoched in then bounced out and would have made the score 2-2 - Triforce was too young and too brilliant for Ingram Micro. The latter looked slow, particularly its defence and - like itX - was easily cut up by the speed and counter-attacking ability of Triforce.

It will now meet Evolve IT in a mouth-watering quarter-final after two goals from Carlos Tevez and one from Gonzalo Higuain had it leading 3-0 after 52 minute. It coasted after that. Lenovo had no real answers for Evolve IT which has peaked perfectly for this tournament.

A day of great football but one on which Ingram Micro went home early again.

NEXT GAMES June 28/29 (AEST)

  • WhiteGold Solutions (Nederlands) vs inTechnology (Slovakia)
  • APC (Brazil) vs Juniper (Chile)

Now we're into the round of 16 and its sudden death.

What a another great night this promises to be. WhiteGold Solutions are unbeaten in three games and InTechnology pinched a heroic win in its last qualifier to sneak through. Can they do it aginst WhiteGold with its mean defence? Mmmm, it's going to be tough but WhiteGold need to be careful here and wouldn't want to underestimate InTechnology. We're going with WhiteGold but an upset is possible.

APC is among the Cup favourites however Juniper is a young team with great attacking flair who won't e overwhelmed by APC - a team it has played and beaten before. Can it do again? Tough, very tough. Probably not but then again it isn't the biggest mountain to climb and APC would need to play better than it has so far to be certain of making the quarter-finals. We think extra time is a real possibility here. And then it's anybody's game. APC in a penalty shoot out.
