Telstra gets a piece of the pie

Test rollout to prepare the market and for a large-scale deployment

Internet kiosk provider, pieNetworks, has signed a contract with Telstra (ASX:TLS) to deploy 50 Web-based phones to high-profile indoor sites around Australia.

The Hotspot Webphones are set to be released to allow users to pay for Internet access and telco-grade phone calls using coins as well as credit and pre-paid cards.

In a statement to the ASX, both parties are labelling the move as a “market assessment”. The contract is set to be completed later this year.

According to the statement, the final terms of a complete deployment will not be finalised until after the trial is complete.
