Distribution Central taps into the cloud

New cloud managment tool, Storm Front, aims to help resellers offer cloud services to customers

Distribution Central has revealed a new cloud management tool called Storm Front.

It will be launched next quarter and aims to provide resellers with the ability to get access to service providers of cloud services.

Distribution Central CEO, Scott Frew, said any service provider would be able to log into Storm Front and upload its offerings whether it was applications-, server- or processor-based, pricing and terms and conditions.

“Customers are going to engage with cloud providers to outsource some of their IT functions for their business, which is a threat to the channel because they’re not selling appliances and software licenses, and so on,” Frew said. “Lots of distributors are talking about the cloud, and we looked at how we would engage in that business.

“There’s a market for the channel to select these sorts of services, but there’s really no single place to go to. As a distribution organisation our reason for being is finding the best technology that we can supply through our reseller base so they’ve got something to sell to customers.”

Frew said one of the main benefits for resellers would be trailing revenue streams. They can logon on to the Storm Front site and service providers by application, location or services such as disaster recovery.

“We believe that service providers need to get to the channel to get to the entire market. The channel faces a threat from cloud providers because they’re not selling cloud services themselves. We decided to take the pain out of the process and bolt the channel into cloud providers.

“Nobody’s done this before and we like to do the hard stuff. Sometimes there’s a risk associated with it, and we want to go out there and do things differently."
