Gay sex scandal changes NSW IT Minister

NSW gets fourth Minister responsible for ICT in two years

The minister responsible for ICT in NSW, John Robertson, has been swapped to the transport portfolio after its incumbent, David Campbell, was caught leaving a gay club in Sydney in a taxpayer-funded car.

NSW Premier, Kristina Keneally, announced a lightning cabinet reshuffle today and gave NSW Aboriginal Affairs Minister, Paul Lynch, the Commerce portfolio, which includes all Government ICT expenditure. He also takes charge of the energy, public sector reform and industrial relations ministries.

Minister Lynch will now oversee the state’s key ICT reforms including its whole-of-government datacentre consolidation, which aims to reduce costs while increasing performance for a range of vital Government agencies.

The cabinet reshuffle comes after industry criticism of NSW’s budget and its lack of ICT-specific spending.

Minister Robertson had only held the Commerce portfolio for five months. Prior to that, Jodi McKay held the position for three months and Carmel Tebbutt for one year.
